| This week saw a couple of results that would have confounded the tipsters. In a game distinguished by the issuing of a couple of yellow cards, DDs showed how much they rely on missing Statistician Marty Sale to go down 1 - 2 against a determined Macquarie. Apparently Mrs Macquarie was again impassable at fullback. In the other early game, Kingsway defeated Wanneroo 2 - 0 to leap over them into fourth place on goal difference. In the top versus bottom clash between Beldon and Landsdale, Beldon fell over the line scoring 4 goals to Landsdale's nil. Beldon's customary fullback Neil Twyford scored once against an undermanned Landsdale which might provide a clue to why the scores were unexpectedly close. Bullsbrook continued its recent habit of keeping sides above it honest beating third placed Joondalup 4 - 2. At the end of a very even year, the battle for fourth place will be decided in the last round. Wanneroo and Macquarie are poised to bypass Kingsway if either can win the tough games facing them against DDs and Beldon respectively, and if Kingsway can't beat Bullsbrook. | The annual Quiz Night was enjoyed by all who attended on Saturday Night. Thank you to everyone who supported it (and had a great night) and the people who put the effort in to make it happen. To a large extent that was the Social Committee (Vanessa, Tracey and Melissa) lead by Michael Fuller and supported by Shane (questions and marker). Lee Suttcliffe performed wonderfully again as Quizmaster, without resorting to singing even once. Also thank you to everyone who organised donations, and please pass on our gratitude to everyone who did donate. | |

| After the Game - Quiz Night This Week!! | 27 August 2010 |

| Well after the game this week! This weeks results keep the battle for fourth spot on the ladder going strong. Kingsway and Macquarie fought out a scoreless draw mainting the one point gap between them, and Wanneroo stays within one win of fifth placed Kingsway after being beaten 4 - 1 by Joondalup. DDs did the expected and beat Hillarys 7 - 0, and Bullsbrook defeated Landsdale 5 - 0. The interest in the last couple of games centres around the final position in the four. Joondalup looks safe in third position but needs to account for an improving Bullsbrook on Saturday to be sure. Wanneroo is a game clear in fourth but needs to beat Kingsway this weekend to stay there. If they falter Kingsway will move past them into the four leaving Wanneroo with the tough task of beating DDs in the last game of the season to be a chance of playing in the A - Grade Finals. Macquarie are also a mathmatical chance of making the final four but they need to beat the top two sides to do it. Bullsbrook may still have some say in the final makeup of the A-Grade and B-Grade finals groups and Landsdale and Hillarys will fight out the C Grade trophy. Quiz Night 7pm Saturday 28 August AGM 4 September CU on Saturday. | |

Unfortunately, after a good run of interesting and fun reports, it business as usual! In a sign of the times Beldon defeated DDs 3-1 to consolidate their position on the top of the ladder. Apparently, there are very experienced players who haven't quite mastered the art of 'Playing the Whistle'. In the other early game Hillarys continued their run of good form, only to be defeated 1 goal to 4 by Macquarie. Hillarys also lost goalie Paige Burrows to a knee injury. Mrs Macquarie (Sharon Southall) was again (almost) impassable at fullback for Macquarie. In a game that went according to the script, Joondalup 4 beat Landsdale 0. Despite the loss, Chris Worth was very happy with only letting four in! And with a result contradicting their relative positions on the ladder, Bullsbrook more than comfortably accounted for top four contender Wanneroo 8-1. Wanneroo were without ace defender Russell Bembridge and playmaker Trevor Mitchell while Bullsbrook benefited from the “Alex Factor”. This week’s games: 1:45 pm Bullsbrook v Landsdale (umpired by Kingsway & Macquarie) For Graham Poepjes’ 50th game DDs v Hillarys (umpired by Joondalup & Wanneroo) For Lachlan Burrows’ 50th game 3:15 pm Joondalup v Wanneroo (umpired by Bullsbrook & Landsdale) Congratulations Chris Worth – 250 games umpired! The early games this week saw a lot of the ex-Alexander Heights team in action for the Bullsbrook and Landsdale sides. The settling in process that goes along with a major shake up like taking on half an established team can take some time and unfortunately for Bullies and Landsdale their new-look sides haven’t quite got there yet…but a word of warning to the rest of the competition: They’re close. The DDs/Bullsbrook encounter was for the most part a very even game. All except for the DDs’ Matt Pike who scored four second half goals in DDs 4-0 win. Tony Johnson celebrated his 100th game for the DDs with a solid performance while Stuart Monkhouse and Josh Pitts worked overtime for Bullsbrook. In the other early game Kingsway seemed to have the better of Landsdale on the scoreboard, scoring five goals to nil, but they were made to work for their win by a Landsdale side that has finally started to gel and may just regain the form that saw them make the B-Grade Grand Final a few years ago. Leading goal scorer for the association Brooksy was well held in a game he was expected to dominate and Kingsway had to rely on the tenacity of Ian Tinley who scored two of their goals. With a solid team performance it was difficult to pick who was the best player for Landsdale, but Karen Lowry was outstanding through the midfield. It is quite possible that round 14 will be remembered as the turning point for some teams that have been stuck down the wrong end of the ladder for too long. Hillarys is certainly one side that falls into this category. Going into the halftime break at nil-all against top-of-the-ladder Beldon, Hillarys looked set to cause the upset of the season. Goals from Beldon’s Matt Zis and Marty Coles after the break ensured that Beldon kept their almost impeccable record in tact but Hillarys will be full of confidence going into Round 15 knowing that they can match any side in the competition. In the last game of the round Joondalup ‘got out of jail’ against a determined Macquarie. The three-nil scoreboard did not do justice to the Macquarie side that was buoyed by the return of Sharon Southall at fullback. Danny Jackson played a blinder for the white and blacks while Garry Fuller, playing his 100th game, dominated for Joondalup. Sean Rose made a surprise appearance for Joondalup to help Garry celebrate and pitched in for a goal to seal the match. This week’s games: 1:45 pm Macquarie v Hillarys (umpired by Bullsbrook & Wanneroo) DDs v Beldon (umpired by Joondalup & Landsdale) 3:15 pm Joondalup v Landsdale (umpired by Macquarie & Hillarys) for Shane Pollock’s 100th game Bullsbrook v Wanneroo (umpired by DDs & Beldon) Bye: Kingsway | |
