The B-Grade final gave us all a glimpse of what we are in for next year from Bullsbrook. Despite Macquarie’s best efforts, Bullsbrook’s hard running proved too much as they poured on three goals to nil. Due to the frenetic pace and high skill level, the umpires had a difficult time deciding best-on-ground but eventually agreed that Daryl Smith from Bullsbrook was the standout performer on the day.
In the A-Grade final, Beldon skipped out to an early 1-0 lead and, with most of the play, looked in control at half time. But in an unexpected turn of events, the ‘too old, too slow’ DDs aged just the right amount at the break to develop early signs of regressive dementia causing them to believe they were still in their twenties and came out firing in the second half. Two second half goals to best-on-ground Matt Pike sealed the game for the DDs while at the other end Gavin Johnston was under siege, saving goal after goal from the Beldon short corner specialists.
Judging by the hangover this reporter had on Sunday, apparently the presentation night went well. A big thanks to Shane and his helpers for the decorations, DJ and catering. And to Leigh and Mike for the photos throughout the day and evening. Check out the Facebook page for the action shots.
As for the other award winners, congratulations to...

| Before the Semi Finals... | 16/09/2011 |

| Lock ‘em in Eddie. Yes, the final positions have been decided. The jostling is over, the late nights spent going over the various permutations can cease and now the hard work commences. The road to the grand final. That final Saturday in September. But first the results... In what turned out to be the unexpected game of the round, particularly given it was a forfeit, the sparse crowd caught a glimpse of what the future has in store for the Association when Lionel took the field for the scratch match between Landsdale and Hillarys. Landsdale won the points due to the forfeit, but the real winner on the day was hockey. The only game that really counted for anything in Round 18 was the Bullsbrook/Macquarie match-up. Given the standard of the game we might have been watching a preview of the B-Grade Grand Final, although Hillarys and Landsdale are probably thinking differently. Bullsbrook won this round with a blistering shot from Stuart Monkhouse from the top of the D which glanced off Matt Lockton’s glove for the only goal of the game. Joondalup struggled once again, this time against a fired up Kingsway. The win for Kingsway might be their last for the season though due to unfortunate circumstances leaving them quite a few players short for their semi final against Beldon. Joondalup, on the other hand, has limped into the finals but will return to full strength this week. The final game of the round saw a celebration of stalwart Brad Vicars’ 400th game for the Association. Throwing the Zimmer-frame aside, Brad led Beldon to a 2-0 win over the DDs. But of course the most important results from last week were the in elections for next year’s office bearers. And here they are: President – Shane Pollock Vice President – Chris Worth Secretary – Leigh-Ayn Absolom Treasurer – Greg McCallam Publicity - Brad Vicars Registrar – Jan O’Halloran Statistician - Jason Dyer Bar Manager – Ann Twyford Umpire’s Convener – Ray Lee Supply Officer - Tanya Pollock Property – Aaron McLuckie This week’s Semi-Finals… 1:45 PM Bullsbrook v Landsdale (umpired by DDs & Joondalup) Macquarie v Hillarys (umpired by Beldon & Kingsway) 3:15PM Beldon v Kingsway umpired by (Bullsbrook & Landsdale) DDs v Joondalup (umpired by Macquarie & Hillarys) Don’t forget, these have changed from the original fixtures. Please make sure your team mates know. | |

| AGM this Saturday! | 09/09/2011 |
|---|---|
| Well folks, we’re nearly there. The ladder is almost settled and teams are starting to set their sights on the finals. Don’t forget we’ve got the AGM this Saturday between games. This is your chance to help shape the Association as we move into next season. And remember: “many hands make light work” – the more people we get to help out on the committee the better. Anyway, back to last week. The fixtures worked out beautifully this year (thanks Paige!) and we saw all teams getting a good warm-up for the finals with the likely A-graders playing each other as were the B-graders. The first game of the round saw a rematch from the Challenge Cup and unfortunately for Joondalup the result was...well...worse than last time. Undermanned and out of form, Joondalup conceded 12 goals to last year’s Premiers in a very one-sided game. Beldon’s win locked them in as Minor Premiers while Joondalup now have just the final game of the season to get themselves back on track before they face DDs in the semi-finals. In the other early game, DDs bolted out of the gates and notched up a two goal lead at halftime before being run down in the second half by a defiant Kingsway. The resultant two-all draw meant Kingsway will finish the season in fourth place and line up against Beldon in the semi-finals. Landsdale are still searching for their first win of the season with a 0-4 loss to Bullsbrook, but given Bullsbrook’s recent form Landsdale can be reasonably happy in their performance. They may get a rematch next week depending on the outcome of this weekend’s games so no doubt will be keeping one eye on the Macquarie-Bullsbrook matchup. Speaking of Macquarie, they’ve finally found the goals again and just in time for the finals. Their 3-1 win over Hillarys sees them on the same points as Bullsbrook with only goal difference keeping them out of fifth place. Like Landsdale, Hillarys will be interested in the outcome of Macquarie’s game against Bullsbrook as they will be playing the loser in the semi-finals next week. So for the most part this weekend’s games will be dead rubbers except for Macquarie versus Bullsbrook at 1:45. So you may as well head on down early and give them a crowd for their last hit-out before the finals. This week’s games… 1:45 PM Hillarys v Landsdale (umpired by Beldon & DDs) Bullsbrook v Macquarie (umpired by Kingsway & Joondalup) After the AGM Kingsway v Joondalup (umpired by Hillarys & Landsdale) Beldon v DDs (umpired by Bullsbrook & Macquarie) | |
